For @caesar963 and New Hibernia! LOL
I made an attempt to enhance and clean up this
recording as best I could, from cassette tapes. There’re mp3 versions out there, but their quality fares much worse. The only quality audio versions available are in non-downloadable formats, with DRM protection etc, with a paid monthly subscription to the provider eg. (Pandora, Apple Music, Tidal etc) Even then, it is occasionally pulled and then available, like they do with certain songs from certain artists or even whole albums. ENJOY!
Ulysses, novel by Irish writer James Joyce, first published in book form in 1922. Stylistically dense and exhilarating, it is generally regarded as a masterpiece and has been the subject of numerous volumes of commentary and analysis. The novel is constructed as a modern parallel to Homer’s Odyssey.
All the action of Ulysses takes place in and immediately around Dublin on a single day (June 16, 1904). The three central characters—Stephen Dedalus (the hero of Joyce’s earlier Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man); Leopold Bloom, a Jewish advertising canvasser; and his wife, Molly—are intended to be modern counterparts of Telemachus, Ulysses (Odysseus), and Penelope, respectively, and the events of the novel loosely parallel the major events in Odysseus’s journey home after the Trojan War.

Go on, ed. You’re a prince (not like that dodgy prince who’s in the news, a proper prince).

@caesar963 LMAO, TY no no never ‘that-should’ve-been kept-hidden in the attic prince’ lol, btw I think without the titles he was stripped of, he isn’t recognized as a Prince by some nation’s standards…if i heard correctly.

There’ll be a good few die-hards over there who’ll bow & scrape to him nonetheless. He’ll always be a dragon-slaying, (paedophile) prince in his own fat head, I don’t doubt.
Fair play to you, you’re on the ball; you got this in a week before the centenary of Ulysses. An Post (the postal service) just launched a range of new modernist-style stamps to celebrate the 100 yrs & there are new recordings with Mgt Atwood et al.

Nicely done Ed!
Have some beautiful memories of being at the James Joyce Tower and Haberdashery (actually asked my Molly Bloom go there for our honeymoon, and of course she said yes I said yes I will Yes).

Thank you for your efforts and sharing. Assumed to be the best available version. Looking forward.

Hey, if anyone knows how to get in touch with marcodiluce, please tell him that someone has apparently hijacked his ABB account and posted something civil in the comments, in an apparent attempt to ruin his reputation.

Hi guys, may I know whether this is the complete unabridged version, since many full casts rendering of the audiobooks tend to be abridged? Thank you.

This was broadcast without interruption on RTE on bloomsday 1982 and replayed on the CBC. I thought they assigned the actors parts in accordance with Joyce’s abandoned idea of printing the novel in 11 different colours of ink.
It’s fantastic and used to be on sale at the James Joyce Museum in Dublin on CD at an obscene price.

@anazthaj This is unabridged to the last letter. This is full cast non-dramatized or (confusing) Full-Dramatization, The other type of audio you are referring to are really only supposed to be classified as “a dramatization of ” how they get away with adding ‘Unabridged’ , IDK but I hate it lol.
YESS! @joeyplank and do you why he wanted it printed in different ink Colors? lol Because he took on different Author’s voice/style on certain parts or entire sections(like Shakespeare), and different genre writing style such as that of Newspaper Journalist, an EPIC, Mystery. The man was all-out literary genius, original and bold asf. and yesss the price for this version in audio is still obscene lol, last I saw it was $800 or in streaming format : Licensing fee only!!

Just in time (02.02.2022) in time for the *100th* anniversary of its publication. Thanks.

@edbroadway, thank you. Yeah I hate it too when it’s mentioned “unabridged” for abridged version of the book. For me, anything other than what the author intended to be published is abridged.
BTW, the audio quality is top notch.

@anazthaj Thank You so much for the feedback!!!! very imortant since I couldnt get a sample up of my own clean up touch, and I definetly wasn’t going to put a link of a quality the downloader wasn’t getting. Glad your enjoying!
