“A provocative anthology” edited by Jonathan Santlofer, “featuring original short stories and art from some of today’s most acclaimed writers and artists […] as varied and expansive as our country’s many challenges. Though it doesn’t offer any easy answers, it is a hopeful collection, filled with empathy and acuity.”

Publisher’s description:
“In time for the one-year anniversary of the Trump Inauguration and the Women’s March, this provocative, unprecedented anthology features original short stories from thirty bestselling and award-winning authors […], with an introduction by Pulitzer Prize–winning author Viet Thanh Nguyen.
When Donald Trump claimed victory last November, the US literary world erupted in indignation. Many of America’s leading writers and artists openly resist the current administration’s dogma and earliest policy moves, and they’re not about to go gently into that good night. In It Occurs to Me That I Am America: New Stories and Art, more than thirty of the most acclaimed modern writers consider the fundamental ideals of a free, just, and compassionate democracy—through fiction.
[…] This anthology is a beautiful, enduring collection that will resonate with anyone concerned with the contest for our American soul.”

[…] This anthology is an ugly, short-lived collection that shows how exploitable some so-called “acclaimed” writers are. Thanks for the list. We now know which books we can avoid reading!

Thank you for this!

Lol, I’m betting not 1 of these authors will lose a single sale by submitting their stories to this anthology in fact, just like the NFL, I’d wager their sales actually increase.

i just wish we could get above this. The last few Stephen King novels have all been invaded by his politics. I don’t know if that’s the way it’s been for the last 40 years, and I just didn’t notice, but it’s been so much worse in the last 2 years.
but, hey, a new Neil Gaiman story is a new Neil Gaiman story, so I’m going to give it a listen.
5 stars for the share. I didn’t want to come off a s negative towards the person sharing this or the site. I LOVE this place. You keep me going.

i agree most are politicized, yet I think half are still are very good, for some the political situation is only a backstage and the in many i think the authors themselves are perplexed by the result of their introspection
@ Horstman: yeah, very good tho. If it were not for its brevity I`d rank it one of my favorites. shows how a little can go a long way. (a saying quoted in Safety First)
