Nostromo: A Tale of the Seaboard (1904) is a novel by Joseph Conrad, set in the fictitious South American republic of “Costaguana”. First serialized in monthly installments of T.P.’s Weekly, in 1998 it was ranked 47th on the Modern Library 100 Best Novels in 20th-century English. It is often considered Conrad’s best work of long fiction, and F. Scott Fitzgerald famously said, “I’d rather have written Nostromo than any other novel”
Nostromo (1904) by Joseph Conrad is a complex political novel set in the fictional South American republic of Costaguana, focusing on the corrupting influence of a silver mine on a society torn by revolution, capitalism, and imperialism. It’s considered one of Conrad’s greatest works, exploring themes of greed, political instability, and the moral decay caused by material wealth, all through a masterful, non-linear narrative. The story follows the charismatic foreman “Nostromo,” whose integrity is tested as he becomes entangled in the nation’s turbulent politics and the lure of the silver.

Includes semi rare versions like The Regulators Abridged and Desperation Abridged, read by films stars Kathy Bates and Kate Nelligan. Includes very good quality version of Four Past Midnight, especially Secret Window read by James Woods and The Langoliers actually sounds like Willem Dafoe now. This set could use some more denoise work but sounds better than anything else available anywhere. |
