Loads of muscular tension, affectation and obscurity! Truly, McCarthy never got past The Orchard Keeper (1965), his debut novel, a masterpiece of careful and restrained writing. This one, was purposely made for Hollywood, by all accounts, a hoax.

I have read this a few times and think it’s amazing . The pacing and sparse use of language makes it a tough but rewarding read/listen .

marcodiluce, your criticism of The Road is narrow minded and belongs elsewhere. mr. mccarthy has penned novels throughout the decades that are read, studied and appreciated by many folks. agreed, 1965’s Keeper, surprisingly overshadowed, yet you are on this page to download a book you abhor and likely know little of his works. From Blood Meridian, to the Border books, to No Country… check ‘em out; they’re free with a library card.
