Thanx for these, baraka, just getting into the Koontz books now (never read ‘em before this very month!).

“Never read ‘em before this very month!”
You still haven’t, I suspect. We listen to books; we do not read them. Reading has myriad cognitive health benefits that are not retained when enjoyed in audiobook format. It is important that we leave this word (”read”) alone, as I think it deserves it.

You’re probably right. I was using the word in its broadest, most generous sense. However, don’t discount the beneficial effects of storytelling conveyed through the human voice. It’s about the oldest, most natural form, and the one we (those of us not hearing-impaired) experience first. It’s also how we communicate narrative directly to one another so much of the time, building bonds of trust & affection, and all that stuff.
Although I greatly value the appearance and interpretation of symbols on a page, a great deal of reading now takes place on the internet. And comparatively little of that material entails positive health benefits.

Oh yea leave the word read out when speaking
to “readers” just someone telling another what
word to use and bring in health issues. Use
what ever word you please no one should be policing your words. The word is actually audio
books. I’ve more than 7,000 readers in my group
and never seen the word “listen” always audio.
You use whatever word YOU want no wrong words
except by those wishing to take power and tell
you how to speak.

Love the rhetoric folks! I read books and listen to books and sometimes watch the movies of the books. I am past beneficial health qualities of reading only. Thank you for the read baraka667

100% incorrect

Why do some people have to take the time leave comments that have nothing to with the audiobook in question (Phantoms) which btw is an absolute brilliant story and I still remember the first time I “read” the book long before audiobooks were around. Its still a great story regardless of how many times you’ve read/listened to it, it never gets old imo. It’s awesome though the first time you read/listen to it. It’s a must imo
